The Harare City Council has partnered Group Five and Bitumen World in a US$5 million venture that will see the rehabilitation of roads in the capital.

Group Five and Bitumen World are behind the Plumtree-Bulawayo-Harare-Mutare highway facelift.

Addressing the media in the city today, addressHarare Town Clerk, Dr Tendai Mahachi said the two road construction firms had offered to assist in resealing and pothole patching.

“The two partners have offered to assist us in rehabilitating city roads as part of Harare’s broader vision of achieving a World Class City Status by 2025,” he said.

“Work by partners has already begun. We would like Harare residents to bear with us during this busy period when we are going to inconvenience their movement. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes to get their destinations to avoid congestion.”

“Group five is currently working on Cripps Road while Bitumen World is doing the Seke Road.”

Dr Mahachi said most roads in the city centre would be attended to.

He said council targeted repairing all roads before the onset of rains next season.

The majority of roads in the city are in a bad state.
