Prophet MAGAYA: the untold story MAGAYA

The Sunday Mail

Fatima Bulla in Gaborone, Botswana

PROPHETIC, Healing and Deliverance Ministries leader, Prophet Walter Magaya is human after all. After bringing business to a standstill here, the Man of God had time to speak about his daily routine, his fears and how it all started.

But before it all, like a true husband, he spoke about his humble wife, Tendai and why she is not known as prophetess.

Prophet Magaya who ended his debut three-day tour of Botswana yesterday said he did not want to expose his wife to spiritual attacks by letting her assume a post she was not ready for.

In an era where wives to prophets whether by default, design or anointing automatically assume the role of prophetess, Prophet Magaya said his ministry looks up to the example of his spiritual father and SCOAN leader, TB Joshua.

“My approach to ministry comes from the one who fathers me. A ministry is different from a church. With a ministry you do it according to how you are inspired by the Holy Spirit. A church is formed from the body but a ministry from the Holy Spirit to the person.

“That is why one can choose to focus on something like John the Baptist who focused on baptism. My ministerial approach is on deliverance, healing and prophecy.

“For now God is using me and my prayer is God must also use my wife in the way He sees fit. But if she is not used as much as I am, I must then not expose her too much.

“If I expose her too much to the ministry, she can be attacked. I am still praying and she is also praying that God gives her the grace as well. I don’t want to expose her to things that she is not at level with.

“But if time comes and she is mature enough and she reads the Bible and meditates every day, you will see her one day in the limelight,” Prophet Magaya said.

But how does this hugely popular Prophet start his day?

“If the previous night was eventful it may delay my morning, but if it was not then I usually have an early morning. Usually I am up at 6am.

“It’s either I am exercising, praying or reading. If I sleep at 8pm I wake up at 5am.

“It determines how the morning will be like. I just choose to be different, I enjoy freedom I don’t want to act holy. I don’t want to pretend. I enjoy that freedom of just being free and being myself.

“I strongly feel that God gave me a gift, so I don’t mind just being myself,” Prophet Magaya confidently said.

Speaking on his fears, Prophet Magaya said he had the fear of failure during his early days in ministerial work.

“Right now I am a bit used, but the first days it was a bit scary. My heart would say God what if I don’t deliver what they are expecting?

“But now through the experience of seeing God work every time, through knowing God your grace will increase that’s what the Bible says.

“So I know my God, I am very confident that healing will happen, deliverance will happen today (in Botswana) and their joy of receiving me will be satisfied by those fruits,” he said.

Where did this Man of God come from? Where did it all begin?

Prophet Magaya said;”I used to duplicate DVDs and go to Sorowe here in Botswana.

“I was trying to raise money for my college education through selling products.

“Whoever met me during that time will tell you about my gift as I was always there to give people counsel and solve their problems.

“Let’s say I am at someone’s house, selling something, but would see that they have a problem. I would counsel them, pray for them and that’s why I ended up doing the ministry work.

“I noticed that whatever I was selling, it would push me back to counselling and praying for people.

“Since 1998 I have been preaching, since I was at school (I have been) praying for people.

“But I wasn’t focused on that only. I was selling gospel CDs that was my mainline (of business). I did more than a 100 things. I was a computer person so I took advantage of technology at that time,” he added.

While Prophet Magaya is out of bounds when in the public what with a wall of muscled royal guards around him, he laughs a lot about opinions, negative or positive, raised about his ministry.

On a relaxed day he loves to take out his football boots or play snooker.

“Generally whatever makes me laugh is what I do. Sometimes I play soccer; sometimes I play snooker, those basic things,” said the Prophet.

Some who grew around him are quick to dismiss the source of his power but he says it is to their own peril.

And for those who wonder where Prophet Magaya gets his money it certainly doesn’t come from crusades – well at least according to him.

“We do not do offering on crusades. We have partners who fund the ministry,” he said.
