Pastor G ‘turns 18’

The Sunday Mail

Pastor G
ON Saturday I will be hosting praise and worship show at Theatre in the Park in Harare late in the afternoon to celebrate my 18-year journey.

I will be joined by guest artists who include Sharon Manyika, Petronellah Sengwayo, Billy Ngoreta, Prayersoul and Minister Josh Kays.

Eighteen years of music ministry means that God has brought me through all those years; for it signifies a coming of age and a new perspective and a new season.

I am now more clear on what God wants me to be in the industry and ministry. I have transitioned from just doing music to creating music with a purpose.

Gospel music for me means bringing people to a place where they can draw nearer to God and find hope and healing in their time of need.

I also do music that encompasses exaltation, adoration, celebration and adoration of God. Three major things I have learnt is that as an artiste we need to grow our creativity so that we are not predictable and to create music that brings a sense of newness when people hear it.

Secondly, to have consistency and the tenacity to keep working even when rewards are not in sight.

Character is the third thing which is critical in our lives. Learn to work on your beliefs, values and principles and learn to stick to them.

As we celebrate this 18-year journey, I now have 10 albums and expecting to release two more this year. I am humbled to have been a four time Zimbabwean Music Awards nominee and winner of the Permican Contemporary artiste for 2015. I am working on a number of projects and tours as well as mentoring and growing worship leaders and artistes.

Stanley Gwanzura aka Pastor G has released more than 10 gospel albums in his nearly two-decade career as a musician
