HARARE CITY star Mercy Mukwadi has been suspended by the Netball Super League side — without pay — for alleged indiscipline.

The City Queens goal attacker and vice-captain was suspended a fortnight ago.

In a letter dated September 26, 2018 and signed by club chairperson Dorothy Mavalwane, Mukwadi was also accused of causing disharmony.

“The Harare City Queens would like to advise you that you have been suspended without any benefit or allowances with immediate effect for allegations of misconduct and causing disharmony in the club. You will appear for disciplinary hearing on a date to be advised,” reads part of the later.

But Mukwadi believes City are treating her unfairly after serving the club loyally for three seasons.

“For the three years I have served Harare City Netball Queens with all my heart, I have never been issued with either a verbal or written warning,” she said.

“I have been with the club for long enough and I know the rules and regulations; from what I know I breached none of my contract terms. It’s unfair for the club to suspend me just like that.”

The fall out between City and Mukwadi exploded soon after the municipal outfit fell 38-45 away to ZRP Mambas.

The City vice-captain was accused of fixing that game, and allegation the player says is “devilish”.

“Maybe I had a bad day in office but for people to come out and suggest that I was involved in match fixing is devilish. Maybe this is something personal,” she said.

“Just like every player I wanted to win that game because it was a title decider but things did not go according to plan.

“If I was not performing to standard on the day, they should have simply substituted me. Harare City has three shooters, who are equally experienced, and the team could have made use of those on the day. Why allow a person you suspect to be have fixed the game to play on?”
