NICHRUT could have comfortably won this Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie but wasted a glut of chances at Ascot yesterday. A share of spoils was ensured when Bulawayo Chiefs skipper Moses Majika scored a spectacular free-kick midway through the first half to cancel Shepherd Sithole’s early strike.

The result means Bulawayo Chiefs now have 12 points from as many matches while Nichrut are now on 13 points.

Makorokoza, as Nichrut are known, started the match brightly and looked determined to collect a full set of points at home. They were rewarded for their early dominance when Sithole connected Tatenda Hapazari’s cross.

Majika levelled the scoreboard on the 20th minute mark with a well struck free-kick that left Tafadzwa Javangwe in goal for Nichrut stranded. Nichrut created a number of chances after the breather but their usually trusted attacker Hapazari failed to convert chances that came his way, leaving coach John Nyikadzino to bemoan the absence of a dangerous gunslinger in his team and the country at large.

“It is the same old story, scoring is a national problem but we will keep on training hard to get the goals. The guys played well and a draw is not a bad result, it is a point gained and I am happy with the application of my players. Now we are looking forward to our next game against FC Platinum in Zvishavane,” said Nyikadzino.

Bulawayo Chiefs coach Garthly Chipuka was happy with his charges’ performance.

“When we came here our strategy was to get something, either one or three points.”
