Ngezi Platinum Stars . . . . . . (0)1 Shabanie Mine . . . . . . . . . . . .(0) 0QADR Amin was the hero for Ngezi Platinum Stars yesterday when his 71st-minute left-footer helped the Mhondoro side collect maximum points against Shabanie Mine.

Ngezi, who had a bright start to the season, were stopped by Highlanders in Bulawayo last week but quickly bounced back at home yesterday.

Donald Teguru – who was exciting throughout the match – went past Shabanie Mine defender William Mapfumo and sent in an inviting cross.

With no Shabanie Mine defenders covering the blind side, ‘kepper Samue Mafukidze was left exposed, allowing Amin to ghost in to snatch the goal.

Ngezi Platinum enjoyed territorial advantage and their strikers were guilty of missing gilted chances, leaving coach Tonderai Ndiraya to shake his head in disbelief.

“My strikers are not finding the target and I am a bit worried because at times we have to rely on midfielders,” said Ndiraya. “The conversion rate of our strikers is very worrying, as we had to rely on a defender to score for us. I am, however, happy because scoring is a team responsibility.

“It was however a good response, what we asked for following our defeat to Highlanders. The win will give my boys confidence going forward, and I would like to applaud the fans and my executive for the important victory at home.”

Ngezi could have opened their account in the 52nd minute but Terrence Dzukamanja shot weakly at goal with only Mafukidze to beat.

Amin was then guilty of missing a chance when he drove his effort wide from a Tatenda Mchisa cross.

Donald Teguru was the next to join the list of offenders when he failed to drive home another golden opportunity in the 63rd minute following a pass from the right by Terrence Dzukamanja with only the Shabanie goalie to beat.

Four minutes later it was Edgar Mhungu’s turn to miss when he received the ball in the box and instead of going for the kill, he controlled the ball and drove his effort skywards much to the amazement of Ngezi fans.
