Former Zanu-PF National Political Commissar Cde Webster Shamu, who was suspended in 2015 for being part of sacked Vice-President Dr Joice Mujuru’s successionist cabal, has bounced back into the party leadership as a Central Committee member.

Cdes Chenhamo Chimutengwende and Dorothy Kadungure have been elevated to the Politburo, while Cdes Irene Zindi, Shadreck Chipanga and Moses Gutu (all from Manicaland), Idah Mashonganyika (Harare), Chipo Dyanda and Sheila Mabasa (both from Mashonaland West) have also been promoted to the Central Committee.

Other new Central Committee members are Cdes Jeffreys Murire (Masvingo), Zenzo Sibanda and Martin Khumalo (Matabeleland North), Tendai Kuzvidza and Warren Hungwe (Mashonaland Central).

Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Dr Ignatius Chombo announced this at the party’s 16th Annual National People’s Conference that ended here yesterday.

“Politburo members who were appointed by the President are Cde Chenhamo Chimutengwende and Cde Dorothy Kadungure as deputy Politburo members,” said Dr Chombo.

Cde Shamu was suspended alongside 38 other senior party officials after being linked to a plot to oust President Mugabe in both Zanu-PF and Government and replace him with Dr Mujuru.

At the time, Zanu-PF spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said, “Suspensions do not mean that you are expelled from the party. Suspensions mean you remain a member of the party, but hold no leadership position for the period given.”
