THE high court has barred a group of parents from stopping the rewriting of the Zimbabwe Examination Council (Zimsec) 2014 Ordinary level Mathematics and English examinations slated between tomorrow and Thursday.

The parents and guardians – Godfree Chinyemba, Rosemary Chanyurugwa and Shylet Matsengtorodzi – represented by the Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association, had made an urgent application to the High Court seeking the upholding of the examinations written three weeks ago.

The application followed an order for a rewrite by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education after examination papers for the subjects leaked in lower Gweru.

However, the parents’ application, filed under case number HC 10309/14, sought the court’s intervention such that a rewrite would only be ordered in the affected area.

According to the ruling made last Friday, High Court Judge Owen Tagu dismissed the application indicating that the matter is not urgent.

The dismissal of the application will see candidates writing the Mathematics paper one and two tomorrow and Wednesday respectively while English paper one is set for Tuesday and paper two for Thursday.
