Mutasa’s shot at redemption

LLOYD MUTASA hasn’t impressed as Dynamos gaffer, winning just nine of the 21 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League he has taken charge of since the unceremonious departure of the equally unimpressive Paulo Jorge Silva. Seven of those games have ended in draws while five were lost causes. This gives Mutasa a 42,8 percent win rate, and at DeMbare that is just not good enough.

The Dynamos coach’s job security has been the subject of intense scrutiny in recent weeks. However, the former stylish midfielder has a chance to redeem himself this afternoon.

Knocking bitter rivals Caps United off their stride as they bid for league honours will be greeted with champagne bottles at DeMbare.
The match comes in a season where DeMbare have already lost home and away to Highlanders and FC Platinum.

Now they risk completing an embarrassing triple double should they lose to Caps United, to whom they succumbed to a 0-1 defeat in the reverse fixture at Rufaro on Workers Day.

“We are aware that we lost to Highlanders home and away, lost to FC Platinum home and away and Caps United also beat us in the first leg. So there is a lot to play for, we need to get the bragging rights back as a team,” said Mutasa.

The Dynamos coach has been challenging his squad to rise to the occasion.
“When you play the so-called lesser teams that are not your Caps United, FC Platinum or Highlanders the youngsters come here and dilly-dally, they don’t care whether they are in the team or not.

“That is not on. You don’t necessarily need to get motivated by playing against Caps United, because if you beat Caps you get three points, you beat Hwange you get three points,” he said.

Mutasa added that Dynamis have been putting in a hard shift ahead of the derby.
“The behaviour, the commitment we have seen this week is what we should see week in week out at Dynamos. There are situations where you see the fans wanting it (win) very much but the actors (players) are not eager, but what we have seen this week are players who are hungry and want to play for a win,” he said.
