LLOYD Mutasa made history when he registered the first victory for FC Platinum over Caps United in a Castle Lager PSL match at Mandava Stadium yesterday. He needed three minutes of magic that saw Donald Ngoma scoring in the 39th minute and a rare goal by Qadr Amin in the 41st minute. Caps United replied through Dominic Chungwa’s third goal of the season in the 85th minute.

Wisdom, Mutasa’s son, who played a blinder, won possession in the middle of the park and threaded a pass to the right were Stephen Sibanda obliged with a cross into the box. With Caps United defenders ball watching, the tall striker obliged with a right footer and placed the ball beyond the reach of Tafadzwa Dube.

Soon after the opener, the hosts piled on the pressure and won a corner kick on the right. Left back Amin took the responsibility and curled a beauty that eluded the entire Green Machine defence and into the net.

Makepekepe pulled one back through Chungwa late in the match after a corner kick by Moses Muchenje from the right saw the Platinum defenders failing to clear the ball and the alert Chungwa slotted the ball home.

Caps could have equalised in added-on time, but Takudzwa Muhori missed the target by inches after he had found himself with acres of space in the box.

Both teams displayed entertaining football and probably a draw could have been the fairest result though Caps United seems to have been punished from the numerous chances they missed.

Taurai Mangwiro conceded defeat.
“It was a good game but we lost the match because of three minutes of madness. It’s going to be a long season but people must be reminded that the season is still in its infancy,” he said.
His counterpart Mutasa was a relieved man.

“We waited a bit long.History is meant to be broken. It’s not unique but people behind me contributed a lot to the victory. Winning over one of the big teams is very good,” he said.
