Muslims condemn Trump

The Sunday Mail

Sheikh Ishmail Duwa —
THE Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Zimbabwe condemns in the strongest possible terms the stance taken by the President of the United States of America, Mr Donald Trump of banning the entry into the US by Muslims from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen, as a blatant attack on Islam.

By terming or labelling persons from the banned countries as terrorists, the United States government is wrongly implying that all Muslims and freedom seeking people are terrorists.

As the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Zimbabwe, we acknowledge the existence of terrorist groups, but to label everyone a terrorist is an attack on the innocent and peace loving Muslims the world over.

In Zimbabwe in particular and Africa in general, our leaders where once classified as terrorists when in fact they were fighting for the total emancipation and liberation of the oppressed black people, who were wallowing under the colonial rule orchestrated by America’s friends. The Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Zimbabwe would like to pose the following probing questions: Were the people who started the First and Second World Wars Muslims?

Were the people who killed 20 million Aborigines in Australia Muslims?

Were the people who dropped the deadly atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan at the end of the Second World War Muslims? Were the people who killed millions of native Indians in North America Muslims?

The Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Zimbabwe recognises the fact that today’s world is a global village were people need to find each other. It is therefore of paramount importance for Mr Trump to revisit his policy that has seen massive demonstrations taking place in various capitals of the world.

Islam as a peaceful religion is there to promote peace and the existence of peaceful coexistence between people and nations. Ideological or religious differences cannot and should not be used to alienate people from other nations.
