CELEBRATED gospel music artist Charles Charamba encouraged Independent African Church members to follow the good examples set by the founders of the church. The church is also known as Mushakata. Baba Charamba was speaking to hundreds of congregates who attended the Independent African Church 70th anniversary celebrations in Mbare last week.

The musician narrated how the church was formed. “The name Independent African Church bears great significance of the travel and triumphs of our Africans fathers who defied the white colonial mentality and formed the church.

“Celebrating 70 years should be a time to reflect what the church has done. In the Bible, God said to the Israelites after 70 years you shall come out of bondage,” said Charamba. His wife Mai Olivia Charamba also addressed the gathering before performing the popular song “Musimboti”.

Social commentator Dr Rebecca Chisamba urged congregates to remain united. She urged the laity to work closely with their pastors and support the church leaders in running the church. Mushakata was founded in 1946 in Mbare by locals who responded to God’s call to spread the good news around Africa.
