WALTER MUKANGA became the first player to be red-carded in the 2017 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, before a last gasp winner secured three points for Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab yesterday.

Unheralded striker Clive Augusto scored in the 90th minute when Premiership returnees Black Rhinos were thinking they had pocketed a point on the road.

Ngezi Platinum Stars dominated proceedings up until the stroke of half-time when Mukanga was shown a second yellow.Madamburo had come close through Qadr Amini, whose curling free-kick hit the crossbar; while Washington Pakamisa had his close range effort saved by Rhinos goalkeeper Herbert Rusawo a few minutes after.

Rhinos had former Dynamos star Sydney Linyama marshalling their defence and exploited their numerical advantage in the second half, especially after the introduction of another ex-DeMbare player, Benjamin Marere.

However, their dominance counted for nothing as they succumbed to a late, late goal by Ngezi Platinum Stars super substitute Augusto.

Augusto shook off a challenge from a Rhinos defender before firing past Rusawo to spark wild celebrations at the Baobab.

It was a good start for Ngezi coach Tonderai Ndiraya, who has a top-four target this season.

For Stanford “Stix” Mtizwa and his Soldiers, it’s back to the drawing board as they prepare for next Saturday’s home fixture against Chapungu at the National Sports Stadium.

Meanwhile, Chapungu were held to a goalless draw by visiting Triangle at Ascot yesterday.
