Motivation, fiction in unique anthology

The Sunday Mail

Andrew Moyo —
AFTER reading and reviewing many motivational literature from various authors, I realised that some of the writers lack originality and tend to state the obvious where you would expect them to come up with extraordinary words of inspiration.

Some of the motivational pieces that are published by local writers on certain topics are almost the same and this monotonous literature becomes boring at some point.

However, there is always that rare moment when you come across something worth mentioning to the literary community.

I had the opportunity to have a look at a unique piece of literature “Destiny Sagacity”, which is set to be released in a few weeks. This anthology is special in many ways as it combines both motivation and fiction pieces, which makes it attractive to a broad readership.

With seven writers from various countries including Zimbabwe, Angola, Botswana and South Africa contributing to the book, the diversity gives it an interesting flare as each brought their expertise to spice up the work.

The contributors; Tariro Anifasi, Lunga Izata, Thembi Dlamini, Ralph Kadurira, Marshal Chidza, Tanyaradzwa Masaire and Pablo Chimusoro did a brilliant job creating such a captivating book centred on the theme of destiny.

This is the first time that I have read a book where in the first chapter you are reading a motivational piece, skip to the next chapter and there is a short story with the pieces running under the same theme.

This book has inspirational stories that are meant to shift the way you think as it cultivates a positive mind-set towards everything you set out to do. From Anifasi’s creative storytelling to Chimusoro’s words of wisdom, the writers in this text will definitely keep you glued to the pages.

The beauty about anthologies is that you can just skip to the next story if you find the one you are reading to be boring but in this instance it would be wiser to read all the pieces as each author made a significant contribution to the book.

There are many issues that were tackled in the book including self-awareness, mentorship and goals among other things.

Marshal Chidza’s motivational piece is not only educational but interesting in many ways as it deals with some of the essential elements that are necessary if one is to be a successful individual in life.

He describes books, individuals and goals as important aspects that will transform someone’s life in dramatic fashion.

“There’re countless books that have pointed me in a different direction and have taught me a number of lessons. There’re also many books that have helped me articulate my own emotions or thoughts and helped me find a voice. If it weren’t for the books I’ve read, I’d be a very different person today and I can safely admit that if I don’t read, I get lonely,” narrates the author.

Chidza tries to explain how books can change people’s perspectives and in the long run help shape their destiny.

He goes on to explore the issue of company, pointing out that the company you keep tends to affect how you live your life.

“You tend to be happy when you spend most of your time with happy people and successful when you spend most of your time with successful people.”

Besides the motivational chapters in the book, the fiction stories also pack a punch with the writers showcasing brilliant writing skills. The storylines are not only captivating but are also laden with inspiration, which comes as no surprise considering the purpose of the book. If you are a reader who loves short stories and inspiration, this is surely a must-have.
