Zimbabwe gospel musician, Mkhululi Bhebhe relishes the day he will receive an award from his home country despite receiving acclaims in foreign land.

The South Africa-based artiste who joined multi-award-winning group, Joyous Celebration Choir in 2010, is among the nominees for the Zimbabwe Achievers Award UK edition in the International Music Artiste of the Year category.

“Awards give the desired validation for one’s work and finding my name on a list of nominees especially in the UK edition of the awards is both an honour and a privilege.

“Be that as it may, my greatest joy will come the day I will actually receive an award in my home country, my beloved Zimbabwe which I feel I have represented well over the years. Such recognition will always come before any other recognition elsewhere,” Bhebhe said.

The 31-year-old is vying for this accolade with fellow artistes,Joseph Madziyire, Lloyd Tevedzai, Pride Priestly and Takesure Zamar Ncube

Speaking from Johannesburg, Bhebhe said the nomination spoke on itself about his expansion in music.

“Being recognised and appreciated for one’s work is always a treasured thing. I feel very honoured to be nominated for a Zimbabwe Achievers Award in the UK. This goes to show that my ministry is spreading across all walks of life,” Bhebhe added.

Last year Bhebhe was also nominated for a Zimbabwe Achievers Award South Africa.

He has also been nominated for the African Gospel Music Awards (AGMA) on several instances over the years.

The Bulawayo bred star has travelled to South America and the Caribbean ministering to huge crowds over the past few years.

Born in a family of four boys and two girls, Bhebhe had to struggle with low self esteem stemming from his childhood years after an attack by a rare disease on his legs. This left one of the legs a bit shorter than the other.

While his childhood experience built anger in him and made him believe that there was no God, Bhebhe definitely argues otherwise today.

“All in all through my failures and triumphs I have learnt to work extremely hard and to depend on God who is the author and the finisher of my faith. Through Him alone, no mountain will be too difficult to climb.

“A career in music will always have its ups and downs like any other career path. Establishing one’s self as a brand has been one of the most difficult things I have had to do without any proper management.

“I have had to start from the very bottom. This gives so much truth to the statement that ‘success doesn’t come easy,’” Bhebhe added.

“I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the likes of Donnie Mclurkin, Kirk Franklin, Vashawn Mitchell and next month I will be with Marvin Sapp as well. Through platforms like Joyous Celebration, God has made my name known in so many countries in Africa and abroad.

“And that is something to always treasure. I have also had the privilege of ministering in countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Botswana, Swaziland, Namibia, Cameroon, Kenya, England and Scotland to name a few. And I am set to minister in Australia, Guyana, Suriname and the United States of America before the year end,” the former idols contestant said.
