Ministering through music

GOSPEL music artiste, Pastor Terence Gupa, has staged numerous live shows beyond the country’s borders barely six months after entering the music scene. The Kadoma based artiste of Reho’both Deliverance Ministries is currently on a regional tour of Zambia, Namibia and South Africa.

Pastor Gupa released his debut album titled ‘Tinotenda’ early this year.

The album has five tracks — Ngiyakubonga,’ ‘Too much,’ ‘Tiri Tose,’ ‘Ndinoda kunamata’ and the title track.

The song ‘Tinotenda’ is featuring on the Star Fm Gospel Greats’ future hits.

Pastor Gupa said God qualified him to become a gospel minister the day he was born.

“Music is part of my calling to ministry. When I am singing, my inner being is at peace.

“When I released my album, people loved it and others took it outside the country. We have so many Zimbabweans in the diaspora, especially within the SADC region. That was the genesis of my tours. Ever since then, I am a man on the move.

“Last month, I was in Zambia for one of my memorable shows. This has also opened doors for me locally as I am receiving numerous invitations to perform with gospel gurus such as Baba Charles Charamba, Sabastian Magacha, and Mathias Mhere, among others,” he said.

“As a pastor, my duty is to be the mediator between God and man so I use my musical talent to advance that cause.

‘‘I draw my inspiration from the word of God and also sing about social issues,” he said.

“The Holy Bible is my sole text book. I take reasonable time when writing songs, I don’t just rush. I think that is why my songs minister to me first before they reach the masses. Sometimes I fast when penning songs. I don’t sing for pleasure. Gospel music is another version of preaching. I give my all when it comes to this duty,” said the 25-year-old pastor.

He said growing up, he would sing during the Catholic Church’s Sunday School services.

“My talent was discovered when I moved from Catholicism to Pentecostalism as a worship pastor,” he said.

He said Christians have a hunger and thirst for righteousness and that is why they should cry out to God through songs and hymns.
