Mayweather heads to the octagon

Floyd Mayweather’s MMA debut is now a matter of when rather than if after he sent out yet another teaser with an Instagram video.

“Money” hasn’t fought since coming out of retirement to take on UFC’s “Notorious” Conor McGregor — a knockout victory that secured his perfect 50-0 boxing record.

However, while that fight was supposed to be his last, the 40-year-old has dropped what can no longer even be considered a “hint” at this point at returning the favour to McGregor.

“2018. Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. MMA. What are the odds Paddy?” he said on the video which picked up over half-a-million views within an hour of being uploaded.

It was, quite obviously, an announcement made in partnership with Paddy Power judging by his shorts as he rubbed his hands standing in the centre of the alien octagon-shaped ring that he could soon be calling a home from home. It seems only polite for Mayweather to return the favour to McGregor of stepping into his opponent’s back yard, after the Irishman happily did the reverse for the American.

Last year, UFC president Dana White had insisted that he was in the process of arranging a rematch between the pair, but it was a statement that was inevitably laughed off.

However, this isn’t the first time Mayweather has hinted at the comeback.

As recent as last Tuesday, the boxing legend was filmed hopping into the octagon to get a feel for his surroundings, which McGregor quickly followed up.

“Hahahaha very good. Keep up the good work my son. Yours sincerely, Senior,” McGregor wrote on Twitter in response.

It’s a potential showdown accompanied with the build-up reminiscent of the last.

One teases, the other responds, all that awaits now is the inevitable McGregor-Mayweather showdown. — Daily Mail
