This is no reference to the book by author John Gray . . . it actually became a reality for me as I read and analysed e-mails that I received last week after our little conversation on the Canadian researchers.

The Canadians, according to the University of Montreal INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier website, men who had sex with 20 or more women in their lifetime were at less risk of developing prostate cancer.

Ironically, the researchers discovered that gay men who had sex with 20 or more men were at double the risk of developing the cancer.

Sifting through the e-mails, I concluded that men and women live in totally different worlds.

While men applauded and sort of put a stamp on the research, women on the other hand condemned the researchers outright and accused them of fanning infidelity.

Almost all the men seemed to support the idea that they should sleep with 20 or more women in order to protect themselves from prostate cancer.

The women breathed fire and accused the researchers of being useless professors who dwelt on trivialities and yet the world is crying out for life-changing research that should benefit mankind.

They bemoaned the funds used to facilitate the research as having gone down the drain and said instead, the funds should have been channelled to Africa to help treat men with prostate cancer.

Professors Marie-Elise Parent and Marie-Claude Rousseau from the university’s School of Public Health said men who had numerous female sexual partners had a higher frequency of ejaculations whose protective effect against prostate cancer had been documented in previous cohort studies.

“If this is not encouraging married men to become infidels, I do not know what would be.

“Those Canadians should not waste vital resources funding useless research when the world need answers to more pressing matters through experts’ research.

“They are a sick lot,” wrote in Liberty Tambanewangu.

Aahh, lest I also develop a high blood pressure due to these findings I think sensible people should just ignore these Canadians and their research and concentrate on beneficial conversations.

Speaking of which, Mainini recently got introduced to a grouping of people who call themselves members of Matters of the Heart.

I am told the group was inspired by the search for true love and the need to get a better understanding of these matters of the heart following a radio programme of the same name.

I am still trying to establish if this group is sort of a dating agency or that it just provides a platform for lonely hearts out there.

Anyone (both attached, married or single) can become a member.

But what surprised me most after an inaugural meeting of the virtual group was that it was oversubscribed by women who were mostly in their late thirties and above.

The question that Mainini could not get an answer to was why there was no corresponding number of males in the same age group as women.

Could it be that elderly men can easily hook up with any woman of their choice regardless of their age while their female counterparts (usually regarded as having passed their sale by date) were left stranded as potential suitors have become a rarity?

Next week, Mainini will provide more details about this group. Watch this space.
