Magaya’s oil of “confusion?

The Sunday Mail

Sir 18area.coms —
PROPHET Walter Magaya’s team could soon be doing business in the Premier Soccer League and all the top flight teams have every reason to be afraid. They are doomed – all pun intended – if Yadah Stars coach Kudakwashe “Zvadhuuka” Masaraure is to be believed.

Yadah Stars’ journey to the Eastern Region Division One title was controversial, walkovers and dubious late penalties came their way. Some sections were quick to accuse Magaya’s team of using some greenbacks to oil their way to the title and a possible promotional ticket.

Yadah don’t deny that they oiled their way to glory.  However, the club insists it wasn’t money they used to get the walkovers, late penalties and boardroom decisions.

It was anointing oil, says Masaraure on behalf of the club. Can I get an amen sons and daughters of Papa?  Masaraure claims that the anointing oil they use triggers confusion in their opposition’s camp.  They forget to travel for matches like what Masvingo United did on the last day of the season, score own goals and cause the abandonment of matches.

“A lot is being said about how we won this league but the thing is our use of anointing oil swung things in our favour,” Masaraure told Star FM last week.

“I use that oil and know what it does. It causes confusion among your enemies. Look at the game against Prime Rangers, we got a late penalty but they walked out and we won the match 3-0 after a boardroom decision.

“To them it never occurred that we could have gone on to miss that penalty…that is the confusion I am talking about.”

I hear Yadah Stars apply the oil on match balls and don’t see them stopping the ritual just because they will be playing in the big time next season. Now assuming that the oil does cause confusion as Masaraure claims please try to imagine how life will be in the domestic topflight with Yadah Stars in the mix.

Good people we have enough confusion in our game already and certainly can do without some more, especially anointing oil induced confusion. We already have players who claim that there are times when they don’t see the goal posts when they are on the field of play.

The confusion doesn’t end on the field of play for them, we have lads that seem to forget how to number their days. Yours truly was shocked to read that Archford Gutu is still 23 years old. Have you ever come across the term “forever young”?

While Masaraure claims that the oil only affected opponents it is possible that administrators too lost their marbles because of it. The Eastern Region made several questionable calls in favour of Yadah this past season and we might presume it was the anointing oil.

Now in an era where Zifa are fermenting serious confusion with their suspensions; the addition of Yadah’s anointing oil will cause calamity. Already we have Delta Beverages hinting that they will not renew their sponsorship of the Premier Soccer League.

The sponsors feel the local football governing body is pulling all the stops to create an environment that scares away sponsors. The majority of fans are singing the same tune.

Yet the Zifa bosses believe they are actually giving the game a kiss of life with their ludicrous suspensions. Zimbabwean football is in a place where only divine intervention can save the situation.

However, anointing oil that causes confusion is the last thing we need!  Sir exits the scene!
