Bev, who has gained notoriety for raunchy dancing, at one point getting a bottle of beer into her womanhood before passing it on to a reveller who gladly consumed the remaining beer, returns to the stage on Wednesday, in her first public performance hardly two weeks after quitting Prophet Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance.

“There are some who are saying that Prophet Magaya has managed to pray for my dancing demons and I want to see on Wednesday if those demons have been cast away. But I know I am Bev and I can do what I know best. If the demons have been defeated, then praise be to the prophet,” she said on Wednesday, just before leaving for South Africa.

“I am going to South Africa and I am going to be getting new outfits for my group, outfits that are likely to raise the temperatures in town, outfits that are going to mark my return to the dance floor. A lot has been said, I know, and I just want to prove, if only for one performance, that I am still the same Bev and that nothing has changed,” she added.

Last Saturday, she was a guest performer at a show at Zindoga Shopping Centre — just a stone throw away from Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance. As she went on stage to join Royal Court, a new rhumba group, Prophet Magaya was reportedly conducting a service at his PHD church across the road.

Bev later left Zindoga to attend a Dancers’ Association of Zimbabwe (DAZ) gig at Londoners where other members of the profession welcomed her back on stage.

Bev is among some of the beneficiaries of Prophet Magaya’s benevolence as he opened a clothing shop for the dancer in the city centre a few months ago.

Speaking on the sidelines of her Zindoga performance, Bev said: “I am tired of this Magaya, Magaya publicity thing whilst I am creating more enemies from the church on a daily basis.

“Magaya is not even giving me enough food and I spend hours in queues waiting for my allowances at his place and the money that he is giving me for ordering stock from Tanzania is not enough. At times I fail to pay duty on my way back.”

Harpers, the manager, said since Bev is expected back in the country today, they will have rehearsals tomorrow and Tuesday, to prepare for Wednesday’s show.

“The girls have been idle for the past three months or so and we will use the two days that we have for intense rehearsals. Most of the routines they are familiar with, but since we are making a comeback, we would like to come back with a bang,” said Harpers.

He also added that they are looking at reviving some of the running contracts that they had with nightclubs, contracts that saw them doing regular shows at certain night spots. Besides the regular slots, he said, the Sexy Angels would take their “gospel” across the country, especially in the more entertainment-starved areas.

“Our most lucrative performances are out of Harare and we are going to be intensifying our round-the-country trips,” said Harpers.
