Macheso defies science, Rubbishes paternity tests, Insists on two more DNA tests

MACHESOHave you ever read or heard of someone being referred to as “left-brained” or “right-brained”?
The theory is that people in which the right hemisphere of the brain is more dominant than the left tend to be more intuitive and “non-scientific”, so to speak.
While those in which the left hemisphere is dominant are likely to be analytical and better with science and mathematics. The theory is that “right-brained” people usually become sports or artistic stars.

Alick Macheso, by the theory, is surely right-brained.
The sungura maestro, who is embroiled in a nasty brawl with ex-wife Fortunate “Tafadzwa” Mapako, has requested for two additional DNA tests to be conducted to determine the paternity of their two children.

An unyielding Macheso is unconvinced that the children are indeed the fruits of his loins.
Macheso questions the authenticity of results from a test conducted by Unistel Medical Laboratories of South Africa through their local agent, National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ).

The DNA results, made public over a week ago, confirmed Macheso as the father of the two children.
However, Macheso appears not to trust the science.

He remains suspicious and wants two more tests at different laboratories to “make sure” that Mapako — who is reported to have duped the singer before — does not pull another fast one on him.

Macheso’s legal representative, Norman Mugiya, confirmed to The Sunday Mail Leisure last week that: “We have booked for two more tests with local institutions that do not have to go to South Africa for tests, they do it all here.”

Mugiya said he had written to Mapako’s lawyers requesting that Mapako and the two children be available for the further DNA tests.
“Our client is very mistrustful when it comes to his dealings with Tafadzwa. He has decided to have two more tests to verify the authenticity of the first results. If we can have three different laboratories carrying out the tests, then we can have a better appreciation of the truth,” said Mugiya.

Mugiya said Macheso feared his ex-wife may have tampered with the DNA test results, thus his insistence on more testing.
“Our client is worried about Tafadzwa’s intervention and propensity to frustrate the system. We suspect that even the passport she is using is fake. Her passport says Tafadzwa but her ID says Fortunate — it’s all very murky,” said Mugiya.

Macheso’s legal team said that their client has big plans for all his children, but is only trying to make sure that he sweats only for his true blood.

“Macheso has been through a lot with his ex-wife and he knows her better. So when he doubts, he is only trying to be certain that he is planning the future of his real children.

“He wants these processes to be done now so that he can make solid plans for those children, to secure their future but knowing full well that he is doing that for his true children. I know for a fact that he would be happy to be certain of the paternity of those two children but he would even be happier to take of them if they are truly his,” said Mugiya.

On perceptions that Macheso is trying to settle scores with Mapako by using the children as pawns, Mugiya said many people had the wrong view of the situation.

Said Mugiya: “It is unfortunate that people think that Tafadzwa has won or would have won in relation to the DNA tests. The truth of the matter is that had the system been completely transparent, we would be the ones celebrating, because it is Macheso’s right not only to know and to be certain of the paternity of his children but also to take care of and plan the future of these kids. To show that Macheso has no malice, prior to going to court, he had offered Tafadzwa US$1 250, but she turned it down.

He has always wanted to take care of the children, but Tafadzwa was not reasonable enough and now she is getting way less than she had been offered.” Macheso, an award-winning musician with five children with first wife Nyadzisai, has for the past few months been headline news for his nasty divorce. Last month a Harare court ordered Macheso to pay US$1 030 for the upkeep of the two children and his ex-wife Tafadzwa.

Magistrate Tafadzwa Muvhami also ordered the pair to take their two children for DNA tests after Macheso queried the children’s paternity.
Macheso, a humanitarian ambassador for the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, initially said he would accept the test outcome. But all that seems to have changed now, and the “Tafadzwa Nyarara” hit-maker wants more tests.
