Kriste Mambo Toasters to the rescue of old people’s home

The atmosphere was suddenly tense reminding us of a calm before a storm. Joy evaporated bit by bit like alcohol fumes in an experiment.

The way we wondered was simply seeing a storm in a tea cup. As the toastmasters society of Kriste Mambo High, moving with our motto ‘charity and etiquette all for the love of humanity’, we visited The Makoni Old People’s home.

Our placid faces revealed nothing as we entered the home which is situated in Rusape.

The scene that greeted our eyes was a bitter blow for us. As students we couldn’t do much, but we extended our hands with what we had.

One of the touching moments was when the old people addressed the issue of them eating sadza without relish, having one slice of bread and tea without sugar.

Their grievances really moved us. Now we are pleading with everyone to set love afire within and beyond our communities and help our senior citizens of the society.

We know that out there they are people who can assist these aged people. Believe it or not, but the little that you do can change one’s life.

A lesson to you all is that never abandon the old people wanting a better life because if it wasn’t for them, where would we be right now?

Food for thought.

All the same all thanks goes to our school (KRISTE MAMBO GIRLS HIGH) and the student’s body for supporting us in raising the finance for the well-being of the old people at Makoni. At large our patron and matron Mr Hamutyinei and Mrs. Makoni for their support as well as The Toastmasters Society for having a soft heart. Above all we thank the Lord Almighty for the gift of love and life.
