THE man behind the JM Busha sports fiesta, which exploded in the capital on Friday, has a grand plan.

After holding a second successive JM Busha 54 race competition, which also saw cycling and golf competitions being staged, Joseph Busha opened up on his dream of making the race as big as some of the leading marathons in the world.

“Our dream is to take this race to the same level as that of the London, Berlin and New-York marathons,” he said.

“With the numbers that we witnessed on Friday, I believe it can be achieved if we have more African countries coming to participate.  “After this year’s race, my duty is now to go to all the 54 countries in Africa and introduce the race so that by the time we hold the premium race, the winner will walk away with $54 000, something that will match those international races.”

Andrew Chimbidzikai won this year’s edition of the 54km ultra-marathon in 3 hours 4 minutes while in golf, Ryan Cairns celebrated his recent marriage in style, putting an impressive 66 after an opening 73 to win the tournament at Chapman.

Cairns paid tribute to Busha for hosting such a tournament. “You know my playing partner Madalisto played even better than me but the putts dropped and I’m very thankful to JM Busha for hosting this event and making it possible for the local guys to showcase under par golf,” he said.

Fans and golfers alike had something to chuckle about as Scotty Vincent had his wife caddie for him. One observer remarked that the combination seems to be working given Vincent’s recent spectacular rise in world rankings.

Zimbabwe Professional Golf Association president Gary Thompson reckoned Vincent added some glamour to the tournament. “I also want to say to Scotty Vincent we’re proud of you coming to play and just beating you today puts me on top of the world! No, seriously Scotty is a great champion and we wish him and his lovely wife all the best. My wife and I are fans,” said Thompson.
