It was a hive of activity at Muriel Mine stadium where five ECDs battled it out for honours in different athletics activities recently.

Young boys and girls from Mother’s Touch, Doonside, Mushamukuru, Muriel Mine Primary and the host Jingle Bells battled it out in the sack, potato, short relay, 50 metre and dress races among others where the young generation showcased their talents.

Muriel Mine Primary ECD emerged the victors with 57 points followed by Doonside ECD with 49 points, the third position was scooped by Mushamukuru with 36 points, Mother’s Touch got 29 points on the fourth position and last on the log with 19 points were the hosts Jingle Bells.

Parents gathered noted lack of training on Jingle Bells scholars, “Jingle Bells pupils lack training because they were losing most of the races,” commented Amai Tafadzwa.

On the other side some parents and teachers noted an element of age cheating since there were no birth certificates used for vetting, “We need some form of I.D next time since some of the children looked too old for their purported ages,” said Michael Moya, one of the parents gathered.

After the kids’ games came to an end, parents and teachers were given a chance to showcase their yester-year talents in the 100m race as a matter of getting everyone involved and it was fun all over the place.

“The games were great although we had some concerns over age cheating,” said Mai Kadzatsa, Mother’s Touch teacher.

Jingle Bells administrator Gogo Banda was more concerned with the fun for the kids and the parents/guardians and noted losing as something else,

“Vana nesu-vacho tafara zvikuru, zvekuruza ndezvimwewo,” she said.

“Next time we will use birth certificates,” added Banda

Mother’s Touch ECD from Caesar Mine volunteered to host the next sports gala on the 31st of July 2015 as a matter of keeping up Physical Education instilled in the young people’s minds and at the same time improving their health.
