It’s Ultimate Braai vs Block Party

The Sunday Mail

THIS Saturday is going to be a battle of numbers for Harare and Bulawayo. Party-goers in the two major cities claim that the crown is theirs when it comes to having a good time. The debate is likely to come to rest on October 29 through two separate events that havebeen organised by beverage manufacturer, Delta Corporation.

On the day in question, Harare will host the Castle Larger “Ultimate” Braai Fest at Alexandra Sports Club while the City of Kings and Queens will be playing host to the Castle Lite ExtraCold Block Party. Two different Delta alcohol brands will be on promotion at the no under 18 events.

The first edition of the Castle Lite ExtraCold Block Party that was held a year ago in the capital at Newlands Shopping Centre attracted thousands of revellers. Therefore, the City of Kings and Queens event will be measured against the success of the first edition. Beer prices at both events will be pegged at what is best described by guzzlers as “pump price”.

A 440ml can of Extra Cold Castle Lite as well as a 500ml draught lager beer will be sold for US$1 while a 375ml Castle pint or 340ml (NRB) and a litre of Castle draught beer will also be sold for the same price. Furthermore, entertainment has been carefully selected in line with known preferences from both cities.

The Bulawayo open-air party to be held at the corner of Fife Street and 8th Avenue will have performers that include DJ Liz, DJ Mzoe, DJ Kead Wikead, Babongile Sikhonjwa, DJ Crazy Black, DJ Pam and Cal Vin “that Luveve Boy”. Music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi, dancehall star Killer T, Ammara Brown and various DJs will entertain the crowd that will attend the Braai Fest in Harare. Organisers of the first ever Braai Fest are targeting to roast 10 tonnes of meat on Saturday.

And for every kilogramme of meat consumed, Castle Lager will donate an equivalent amount that will be shared equally by Bulawayo’s Mpilo General Hospital and Harare Hospital.

“We want to consume 10 000kgs of meat on the day and have the longest braai stands of up to 200m. To add to the excitement, a ‘braaiometer’ will be on site showing the meat consumption levels as the day progresses,” said Delta Beverages marketing manager, Patricia Murambinda.

“We are encouraging everyone to participate in this worthy cause remembering that for every glass of Castle Lager raised, the cheer goes way beyond the beer to help our brothers and sisters who are hospitalised.”

The Castle Ultimate Braai Party was born from the strong association between braai activities in the country, beer consumption and music.  For one to get access to Alex Sports Club, they will have to pay an entrance fee of US$5 that will guarantee them a braai pack and one litre of Castle Lager.

The event, which is set to kick off midday, is being held in partnership with popular braai spot outlets that include Pahuku, Mega 2, Family 24, Paramount and KwaFatso.  The aforesaid will be assisting on the braai stands, although revelers can still braai their own meat if they wish. Commenting on the Castle Lite ExtraCold Block Party, Murambinda said,

“Castle Lite returns once again to host the biggest and most anticipated street party of the year, the Castle Lite ExtraCold Block Party. Entry will be free on the day. However, access to the event will not be permitted to persons under the age of 18 years.” The organisers highlighted that event-goers will not be allowed to bring any bottles, beverage containers, narcotics, weapons, glass, or any other contraband.

A number of “Extra Cold” activities have been lined-up for the event, including the new Castle Lite Unlocker Challenge, the Extra Cold Challenge Units and Extra Cold Photo Booth.
