THE the American football fan who bagged a date with Eugenie Bouchard by making a bet on Twitter has finally spoken about that “crazy” Super Bowl night. With Atlanta leading 21-3, the Canadian tennis ace was keen to tell her followers on social media that she knew the Falcons would win. No team had ever overcome such a deficit in Super Bowl history, so it seemed like a long-shot when 20-year-old marketing student John Goehrke replied to her tweet with the message: “if patriots win we go on a date?”

Little did he expect to get a reply from the 2014 Wimbledon finalist, let alone a date, until when, at the end of overtime and with the Patriots completing an historic 34-28 overtime win, Bouchard replied: “So … where do you live?”

“I thought maybe there was a chance she would respond, but I thought there was no chance she’d actually agree to it,” Goehrke told the Kansas City star.

“Once the game ended, that’s when everything started blowing up. I started getting texts from my friends that knew. My Twitter started blowing up. It was the first time I had to start turning my notifications off.”

For her part, Bouchard confirmed in an interview with TSN following the Super Bowl that she intends to go through with the date and may even invite Goehrke to her next tournament.

“It’s fun and I’m going to follow through with it, because I want to honor my word,” the 22-year-old said. “I’ll fly him out (to a tournament), but besides that he has to be the gentleman and, you know, organize a fun date night.”

She signed off on Twitter with the message: “Lesson learned. Never bet against Tom Brady. – Mirror (UK)
