We all have dreams.

It is quite sad that one mistake can shatter any or all of the dreams we have for our children, marriages, lives and our fellow persons.

All men make mistakes, no matter how great or divine they appear to be, for history teaches us that great men refuse to falter because of their mistakes.

Henry Ford did not put a reverse gear in his first automobile; Thomas Edison once spent over two million dollars on an invention that proved to be of little value. The list goes on and on.

The man who makes no mistakes lack boldness and the spirit of adventure such that he never tries anything new. This is the brake on his wheels to progress.

Remember, a mistake becomes an error only when nothing is done to correct it, for if we are not careful, the mistakes of the past can hang like chains to us, effectively hindering our progression towards our dreams.

Merrian-Webster defines a mistake as “to understand (something or someone) incorrectly or make a wrong judgment about something.”

While it is true that mistakes must be considered a liability, it does not mean a mistake has to end in failure because such is the grace of God that He can turn a mistake into a great testimony.

In Philippians 3:13, Paul writes, “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” (New International Version)

The moment a correction is made to a mistake, we must do as Paul said, we must place the whole thing in God’s hands and “forget those things which are behind…” and continue with our dreams.

This is the pathway to victory.

But is it possible to forget our past mistakes?

We can’t literally forget our past; but we can learn from it and move on!

The term “forget” as Paul used it means “not to regard the past as having any bearing or influence on your present spiritual outlook or behavior”.

It is not an issue of the memory functions of the brain, it is an issue of the motivation to go beyond our history and not to get stuck in it.

It takes courage to shed the mistakes of the past and to dream again.

Every person make mistakes and we will never reach a place where we do not make mistakes any more.

Maturity is demonstrated by how we handle our mistakes, for it is not the absence of mistakes that makes us mature, but it is the willingness to admit our mistakes, and the capacity to accept responsibility for them and begin to dream again.

Revelation 12:10 says, “Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.” (New International Version)

A common tactic of the devil is to accuse us of our past mistakes – that is why he is called the accuser of “our brothers and sisters”.

He approaches us with no love, but a tone of condemnation.

He works through a voice; the voice of condemnation. That voice constantly tells you how terrible your past mistakes are.

It basically tells you that you’re never going to be good enough. It tears you down rather than builds up. The accusing spirit uses the existing evidence, the results of your past mistakes to lay heavy burdens and crush you.

Anytime the devil brings up your past mistake that is the work of the accusing spirit. This spirit feeds on past mistakes, in order to justify how you are supposedly a failure.

The purpose of these accusations is to tear you apart and wear you down spiritually so that you walk in guilt, condemnation, and never feel worthy of God’s glorious plan for your life.

You have to learn to let go of your past mistakes before you can start to proceed.

If you fail to let go of your past, you will stay stuck and grounded right where you are, and you will never fully accomplish everything that God has in store for you in this life.

And that will be an eternal regret that you will carry with you once you enter into heaven and the Lord shows you how much more you could have accomplished for Him in this life had you allowed Him to unchain you from your hurtful past mistakes.

The choice is personal.

You can either choose to stay fully bound up in your past mistakes, continue to throw pity parties and blame everyone and everything for your miseries, or you can choose to rise up and make a brand new fresh start and DREAM AGAIN.
