Spirit Embassy church founder and leader Prophet Uebert Angel celebrated his 34th birthday at a glitzy all-white mega-party at the City Sports Centre in Harare last Friday where one of his shirts was auctioned for a whopping US$10 000.

Other items such as a pair of his socks went for US$1 500; a tie US$700; another shirt US$4 000 and an air rifle US$5 500. A portrait of him, United Family International Church leader Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa and their spiritual father Prophet Victor Kusi Boateng of Ghana, also went under the hammer at US$7 500.
Local Government, Urban and Rural Development Minister Dr Ignatius Chombo, who was part of a crowd of about 15 000, was out-bid for the air rifle by a group of congregants in the VIP section. Proceeds from the auction went into Prophet Angel’s purse as “seeds”. Launching the auction, Prophet Makandiwa said: “Some time last week, I had to sneak into the man of God’s bedroom and ‘steal’ some of his most treasured items while he was away at his office and up to now he did not know where the stuff was.

“I know my brother and his taste for style and classy things, but tonight, some of you will go home as proud owners of some of that stuff.
“If, for instance, you buy this pair of socks, you will be blessed with the anointing of speed and overtaking.”

The party was lit by five-star performances by a line-up of musicians that included Pastor Charles and Amai Olivia Charamba, Mahendere Brothers, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi and South African gospel icon Sipho Makabane.

It was, however, local superstar Mtukudzi who stole the show, belting out his gospel-inclined tracks such as “Hear me Lord”.
In his keynote address, Prophet Boateng said Prophet Angel is a heaven-sent instrument.

“Unfortunately, as Africans, we cannot appreciate our own heroes, but it is time we started appreciating our own,” he said.
“Some Zimbabweans may think Prophet Angel is coming as an armed robber, however, he is our hero here at Spirit Embassy.”
Prophet Angel rose to acclaim through his biblical teachings after moving back to Zimbabwe from the United Kingdom two years ago.
