Water supplies to various parts of Harare improved yesterday after electricity was restored at Warren Control Water Pump Station.

Harare City Council distribution manager Engineer Hosiah Chisango said most western suburbs and the central business district received normal supplies by mid-morning yesterday. Many parts of the city ran dry on Friday after a power failure caused a huge water cut.

“Supply has improved and all western suburbs, including Mbare, are fine. Suburbs like Budiriro and Mabvuku got normal water supplies in the morning. Milton Park, the Avenues and the CBD also got normal water supplies.”
Eng Chisango said they were also working on getting southern suburbs such as Hatfield, Waterfalls and Msasa Park back on the water supply network. He said authorities prioritised places like Mabvuku and Chikurubi because of their geographic position.

He added that the situation would have normalised in most areas by tomorrow. Suburbs such as Mt Pleasant and parts of Belvedere should expect consistent water flow mid-week.

“At the moment, we are working to restore supplies to the National Heroes’ Acre and National Sports Stadium because of the commemorations to be held on Monday and Tuesday.” He said the Harare City Council would install dedicated power lines at the station to avoid water cuts in the event of power failures.
