President John Dramani Mahama recently said the government would ensure one of the most peaceful elections that Ghana has ever witnessed come December this year.
President Mahama stated that though the late President Mills was a man of many sides, he would be fondly remembered for his peaceful and tolerant nature. “He will go down in history as one of the people who consolidated the nation’s democracy.”
“Others have suggested a library while some have suggested a statue. We will take into consideration about finding a means to immortalise him,” the President said.
Dr Mahama, after narrating his encounters and experiences with the late statesman said: “We should not wait long to do something concrete to immortalise him. If we recognise him, other politicians will see that a good name is better than riches . . . Let’s find a way to celebrate his life.”
“It is time we appreciated our illustrious sons when they are alive rather than when they are dead. Let’s sacrifice everything and wish him peace as we go through the 2012 general election,” Mr Ayariga added. — GBN. |
