Four armed robbers recently made off with over US$19 000 after disarming a security guard and killing his dog before using dynamite to blast a safe at N Richards Wholesalers in Jerera.

Masvingo provincial police spokesman Inspector Tineyi Matake last week said the four, who are still at large, pounced in the early hours of June 6.
“Upon realising that the four had criminal intentions the security officer set the dog on them, but one of them produced a pistol and shot it dead.

“They then ordered the security officer to lie facing downwards before they tied him with strings,” he said.
The gang is alleged to have forced open the door to the wholesale before using dynamite to blast a safe that contained US$19 674 and R2 090.

The security officer was rescued by a passerby who heard him call for help and the two made a police report. Insp Matake said a manhunt for the four robbers was on.
“We appeal to members of the public to work hand in glove with the police and provide information that will help us nab these armed robbers.

“It is also important for business people to note that it is much safer to bank their money as compared to keeping it at their promises,” he said.
