If Zimbabwe was a nation of dummies as Morgan Tsvangirai apparently thinks it is, we would have bought the story that he has been so desperately trying to sell us these past few weeks.

But then, hey, Zimbabweans are not a gullible lot.

After being thrashed at the ballot at three consecutive Presidential elections and never winning a national poll in his entire career as an opposition politician times, it is understandable that poor Morgan is now developing cold feet.

Participating in the upcoming by-elections would be like voluntarily going to the slaughterhouse.

Poor Morgan lacks tact. Instead of facing his fears head-on, he desperately attempts to hide behind his finger crying “No reforms, no elections”.

Laughable isn’t it?

The last time we checked, the 2013 general elections were held under these very same electoral systems and MDC-T gladly participated because they somehow thought they would win.

What has changed between then and now to necessitate such “reforms” boggles the mind.

Not only is Morgan telling the whole nation that he is panicking because he is increasingly fizzling out, he is also fighting his remaining handful of supporters and close lieutenants, Khupe included.

One would have thought that after 15 years at the helm of the MDC-T would have seen Morgan graduating from amateur politics and grasping a basic thing or two on how politicians get into power. There is only one door to those hot seats – elections!

Those who shy away from that democratic exercise will only rule this country in their dreams.
