The Catholic University of Zimbabwe (CUZ) is a local, private University owned by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference (ZCBC).

The Bishops provide guidance to the administration steering CUZ’s growth.

This has resulted in consistent growth in student numbers, programs on offer and campuses among other things. The key drivers for that growth have been:

Growth,

Innovation

Focus and

Quality performance

CUZ is steadily implementing its 10-year strategic plan which covers the period 2013 to 2022.

The focus of the strategy is on achieving steady and consistent growth. CUZ is targeting to have a student enrolment of 10 000 by the end of the plan period.

The student numbers have grown significantly from 280 in 2013 to 3500 in 2017.

The number of campuses has been increased from one (in the Archdiocese of Harare) to four, including the new campuses in Bulawayo, Mutare and Chinhoyi.

The Bulawayo Campus is fully built and established, with on campus accommodation for 300 students.

The university plans to increase its campuses to eight, by the end of the plan period, one campus in each of the Dioceses of the Catholic church in Zimbabwe.

The University is planning to open campuses in Gokwe and Masvingo in 2018, followed by Gweru and Hwange.

The University continues to review opportunities for introducing new programs.

Part of the growth has been driven by the introduction of new programmes, including a Bachelor of Social Science in Development Studies, a very popular program assessing from the growth in student numbers.

We have also introduced degree programmes in Business Management as well as Accounting. The Theology program has continued to grow and students have the options to study for the Certificate, Diploma and degree programs.

The University looks forward to launching Bachelor of Education degree options during the 2018, as well as the Masters in Entrepreneurship program in 2018.

This will be in association with The Catholic University of Milan, in Italy. The program has been launched successfully in a number of countries.

The University actively supports all teaching staff who are enrolled to study for their Doctoral programs and staff are encouraged to continue progressing with their studies.

CUZ students welcome the study mode options offered which include regular day classes, parallel classes in the evenings and block release classes that are held during the school holidays and at convenient times to the students.

This growth in the university has been made possible through the support the university receives from the Bishops of the Catholic Church in Zimbabwe.

The Bishops have opened up their dioceses to the university to the extent that all the new campuses are housed at existing church institutions in the various dioceses while the dioceses are assisting the university to find a permanent home for the university in each diocese.

The proposed new campuses for Gokwe and Masvingo will also be housed in church institutions.

Enrolment is currently in progress for the February 2018 intake with orientation on the 24th of February for new students and the semester starts on the 26th.

Returning students start lectures on the 19th of February. Students are encouraged to contact the university for registration and to take advantage of the opportunity to grow with the Catholic University of Zimbabwe.
