From the above verse, it is clear that Isaiah saw light shining from Heaven. He saw those who had been walking in darkness seeing light. You wonder where this light was coming from? But hold on dear congregants. Looks like some people are justified to overrate Zanu-PF. Zanu-PF chowororo! For how can one explain the gazetting of Constitutional Amendment Bill (Number 1) last Friday. This Bill seeks to change the supreme law by providing that the President appoints the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and Judge President of the High Court.
The constitution provides that the President appoints the Chief Justice from a list given to him by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). In compiling the list for appointment, JSC advertises for the positions, inviting interested people to apply before conducting public interviews.
The past few weeks have been dramatic with regards to the appointment of the Chief Justice. Bishop Lazarus was watching it all with keen interest. As the days to conduct the interviews for the Chief Justice drew nearer, one Romeo Taombera Zibani, a law student went to the courts to stop the process. Some people said ai???kamfana aka kakarasa brain,ai??? but Bishop Lazarus was already smelling a very big rat.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that the JSC went ahead and conducted the interviews for the job and Bishop Lazarus actually attended one of the sessions. Varume vakuru nevakadzi were busy at it. I actually enjoyed the session.
After the interviews, JSC retreated and started doing what they were supposed to be doing. While they were still at it, boom, Zanu-PF chiwororo came with a bombshell. Well, I am not sure I should say Zanu-PF here, but look Zanu-PF ndiyo iri kutonga saka iZanu-PF that came with a bombshell. So yaah, Zanu-PF came with a bombshell saying the JSC had proceeded with interviews for the Chief Justice even though it had been made aware of the Executiveai??i??s intention to amend the Constitution to allow President Mugabe to appoint the Chief Justice. The decision by Zanu-PF unleashed the dogs. Imbwa dzakahukura kusvika manext door neighbours adeedzera kuti ai???hey, batai imbwa idzo hey!ai??? Even some in Zanu-PF thought their party had gone bonkers and they prayed hard during the night that Zanu-PFai??i??s bombshell will somehow be deflated.
The politically-blind sought the easiest explanation. Haaa, this is about Zanu-PF factionalism – its Lacoste vs G40. Hapana nyaya apa. Bishop Lazarus ziii, zvavo. Kwanzi, G40 by fighting to stop Lacoste from pushing this Bill were fighting to protect the ai???soul and leadership of Zanu-PF?ai??? Bishop Lazarus zii zvavo as if he doesnai??i??t know that Section 180 of the Constitution which provides for the appointment of judges was sponsored by the MDC during the constitution-making process.
Bishop Lazarus zii zvavo even if he was seeing that people were making absurd claims that they wanted to protect the President by taking away powers from him. Itai??i??s like ai???kill the President to protect him.ai??? I really like cartoons when they appear in real life.
As the dogs barked, High Court judge, Justice Charles Hungwe slammed the JSCai??i??s decision to hold interviews for the new Chief Justice saying the JSC was aware of the initiatives to amend the Constitution and that the selection process was being contested in court. This sobered up a few of the dogs, bringing serious worry to some in Zanu-PF. ai???So chiparty ichi chitori serious,ai??? some people asked.
Well, Zanu-PF was not yet done. Ever heard the story of chandagwinyira? Last Friday, the ruling Zanu-PF Government gazetted the Bill to amend the Constitution to give President Mugabe powers to appoint the Chief Justice. Aikazve, Zanu-PF nhai? So chero imbwa dzikahukura sei, chitima hachimiri?
Reality has hit hard. All the speculation and lies about this constitutional amendment being a Lacoste or G40 project have suddenly died. Everything has been put into perspective. Seeing that they canai??i??t stop the tide, some opportunists have been trying hard to throw mud. They are beginning to question who Romeo Taombera Zibani is? They are saying, he is too much of a nonentity to have sought to stop the JSC from conducting its process.
Bishop Lazarus has no short memory. Dear congregants do you still remember the landmark land reform case that changed the whole game? That historic case between Samson Mhuriro and Others vs the Commercial Farmers Union? That case that was handled by the now Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku when he was still the Judge President at the High Court? That court case which changed the career of the now Chief Justice?
Samson Mhuriro was just a nonentity, just like Romeo Taombera Zibani. Letai??i??s not fake confusion kunge tisingazivi how Mhuriro came into the picture.
