Good, bad news from Game of Thrones

The Sunday Mail

Winter is finally here. And so is the return of arguably the most polarising television series of recent times, “Game of Thrones”.

The HBO series premieres tonight, rather tomorrow morning for those of us this side of the equator. It has been a long and agonising wait for the most part. The series premiere of the seventh season would normally have come at the end of March or early April, but was delayed due to weather. Confused?

Series bosses David Benioff and DB Weiss can explain better. “We don’t have an air date yet,” the show runners told Tvline.com. “We’re starting a bit later because, you know, at the end of this season (six), winter is here, and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more.

“We kind of pushed everything down the line so we could get some grim, gray weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”So, what do we know? The bad news – if you’re a fan – is that we only have 13 episodes left in the entire series. The good news – if you’re irritated by the is that we only have 13 episodes left in the entire series.

These will be divided amongst the remaining two seasons: seven for season seven and eight for season eight.

Though not yet confirmed, it is whispered that the eight season eight episodes will be feature length – which again is good news for some and bad news for others. I also know that most of the episodes in season seven will lead to the Great War between the seven kingdoms and those ice creatures. Daenerys and her fight to restore the Targaryen name will be a key part of the season, with the first three episodes titled “Dragonstone”, Stormborn” and “The Queen’s Justice”.Dragonstone is the ancestral home of the Targaryen household, while Stormborn refers to one of her other titles.

Rather than think of these as “spoilers”, look at them as facts wrapped in things you should already know as a fan.T he last time we saw the GOT gang, Daenerys had finally gotten her fleet of ships, her big army and linked up with the Sand Snakes and the Greyjoys. Having banished and killed Ramsey Bolton, Jon Snow had finally his home, crowned King of the North and about to begin his crusade to unite the seven kingdoms; while Cersei Lannister had anointed herself queen. What this sets-up is the potential meeting of most of these characters, and photos from the shoot point to possible pacts being formed in the run-up to an all-out war. There is talk of a possible fight between the Hound and his older brother the Mountain – also known as Cleganebowl in the books.

I guess from the aforesaid you know that I am a fan!
