A YOUTHFUL Glow Petroleum side is sounding cautions despite stitching together a 10 match unbeaten start to the 2016 Netball Super League campaign. Glow are perched at the summit of the league with 20 points and their last victory was a 34-32 stifling of defending champions Correctional Queens. The unbeaten start has had many predicting that the side will win the league, but player-coach Perpetual Siyachitema insists her charges are not in the title race.

“We are leading the log because the girls are determined and are working hard on their game but that is as far as it goes for us. We are only looking ahead as far as the next game,” she said.

“We will not be carried away by this great start. Remember some top players from Nehanda, which is now Correctional Queens, are joining other teams so we will play much stronger opponents in the second round. Moreover, we haven’t faced the inform ZRP team and Beta Queens, so it’s too early to tell.”

The 33-year-old Siyachitema, who is also the national team captain, and Daphine Agere (41) are the only players over 24 at Glow Petroleum.

“We have a young and talented team. MaGogo (Agere) and I are the only seasoned players so one has to understand us when we say we are not in the championship equation even though we are leading the table at the moment.

“Daphine is playing well, defying her age while I also come in to play in the tougher matches because we are very much short on experience” said Siyachitema. The Glow Petroleum gaffer says reinforcing their attack has inspired her team’s best start to a season since promotion in 2008.

“We used to over-work our shooter Paidamoyo Tinoza because as we didn’t have another shooting option. We were also forced to use wing-attack Beaulla Hlongwane as a goal attack at times.

“However, the coming in of Onkemetse Mabuku from Hwange Colliery has made a serious and positive impact on our shooting. She is efficient and is in terrific form,” said Siyachitema.
