THE late former Dynamos chairman Farai Munetsi, who was buried at his rural home in Domboshawa yesterday, has been described as a football visionary whose ideas were not fully appreciated.

Munetsi (61) died last Wednesday in Harare after a long battle with a kidney ailment.

He is remembered most for laying the foundation for DeMbare’s four-year league dominance starting in 2011.

He brokered the deal between Dynamos and financial institution BancABC in 2011 which oiled the Harare giants on their way to four consecutive league titles under coach Kalisto Pasuwa.

Scores of football personalities, including Warriors gaffer Sunday Chidzambwa, 1980 Soccer Star David “Yogi” Mandigora, veteran commentator Charles Mabika, and Premier Soccer League chief executive Kennedy Ndebele, attended Munetsi’s burial.

Mandigora grew up with Munetsi in Old Highfield, Harare alongside the likes of the late Oliver Kateya in the 1970s.

Former Dynamos secretaries Simon Sachiti and Brian Kashangura, former committee member Oliver Manyau, and prominent Dynamos supporter Steven Muteriwa were also present.

PSL chief Ndebele hailed the late Munetsi, who worked for Nestle Zimbabwe, as a humble man.

“You would easily walk into his office and get what you wanted. We worked with him as a sponsor when Nestle sponsored the Charity Shield before he became Dynamos chairman,” said Ndebele.

Soccer commenetator Mabika said Munetsi was a “true football visionary”, adding: “We have lost a football brain.

The most painful thing is that his football ideas were not fully utilised.”

Munetsi is survived by his wife Anne, sons Ngoni and Kudzai, daughter Farirai, and two grandchildren.
