Festive Times Christmas lights in Africa Unity Square

The Sunday Mail

Tanaka Munyenyiwa O’Level – Hilbright Science College —
Gazing deep at the mistletoe embroidered into garland are flashing memories of the glittering amber lights which give a warm glow in the festive season.

Just like when aurora spirals across the sky, sprinkles of synchronised colours give a distinctive hue right around the Christmas tree. Entangled with joviality – the heart beats in tune with the jingle of the bells.

The radiance and blaze of daylight dims into an ignited darkness. A galaxy comes into sight for me to make a wish upon a star.  My dearest wish for Christmas – to see someone coming out through the door like a pillar of smoke – with a six-sided rosy-red ornament in their palm.

Inside it will be treasures which leave me wondering what it could be. One secret I have always kept in the years past to date is, ‘I am only a wrapping cover away.’

All these fill up Christmas – but what is Christmas after all? Christmas can never be found on trees, elf dolls, neither can you package it. It comes from deep within one’s being and how we connect with those around us.

Literally, Christmas is celebrating the birth of Christ. It is a moment in time when we dedicate a day to appreciate the birth of our Saviour. It all boils down to it being a feeling in our hearts.

Merry Christmas
