IT is a dog-eat-dog affair in the capital today. Suluman Chimbetu and Alick Macheso have resumed shows after varying festive season induced interludes while the evergreen Jah Prayzah bids farewell to his fans in style.
Jah Prayzah gyrates at Las Vegasposterr
Jah Prayzah, born Mukudzei Mukombe, takes his “school uniform” act to Las Vegas in Southerton this afternoon, his last show before he goes on a tour of Australia.
Jah Prayzah leaves this week and returns on February 1.
His manager Keen Mushapaidze, said they were excited to be going back to Australia after a successful outing in 2015.
He said today’s family show was special, as they will be bidding farewell to their legion of fans in style, with a high octane gig.
“Our fans never let us down. Team JP is loyal. So before we leave for Australia we have to give them something special. Remember we will not be around this whole weekend, so this is really something that we are doing for our followers,” said Mushapaidze.
Since the closure of Mega 1 Bar, Las Vegas in Southerton, has become a top entertainment spot with a bias towards open air activities.
Spillway comes alive
While Jah Prayzah says goodbye to his fans, Sulu as Suluman Chimbetu is affectionately known by music fans, will be welcomed back to the stage by loyal dendera fans and reggae music lovers at Spillway Pub and Restaurant on the shores of Lake Chivero this afternoon.
Chimbetu, who took a one week break from the taxing showbiz business to “allow band members to recharge their batteries” is gaining ground with his latest release “Just Singles” released just before Christmas last year.
“We had to recharge ourselves by taking a much-needed rest, otherwise, fans were going to start noticing that we were fatigued,” said orchestra Dendera Kings publicist Joe Nyamungoma.
This afternoon’s show also marks the return of Spillway, which had been under renovations for the greater part of last year.
Baba Sharo talks “Tsoka Dze Rwendo”
King of sungura, Alick Macheso, still swimming in speculation of his imminent album release, blesses his fans with the new sound at Zebra Village in Mbare today.
Despite the delay in releasing his eagerly awaited 10th album “Tsoka Dzerwendo”, the sungura ace still remains a powerhouse in the music industry, with a legion of fans who still have faith in him.
Macheso has over the years perfected the art of live performances and with his mesmerising skills on the bass guitar complemented by the energetic Orchestra Mberikwazvo band, fans are in for an exciting experience.
His manager, Lucky Macheso, said the band was energised after the break and are ready to deliver.
“Everyone is so excited. We finished the year with a massive show at Pamuzinda Ice & Fire and today we start 2016 with a bang at Zebra Village in Mbare,” said Lucky.
He added: “With the impending album, new dance routines and the much-needed rest that we took, this show will be explosive.”
Club Scene
Besides the shows, there are numerous activities taking place throughout the day and if one does not fancy live shows, there are several clubs and venues that have the perfect remedy.
Dandaro Inn at the Exhibition Park hosts its weekly “Hangover Sundays”, led by urban grooves artistes Nesto and Taurai Mandebvu with DJ Cavassy on the turntables.
There will be numerous activities to partake in during this Sunday session, which starts at noon and finishes way into the night.
From the braai stands to the car wash babes, the scene is refreshing and those who just feel like relaxing on a Sunday, this will be the place to be.
Dancehall music fans are also in for a treat as Red Fox Hotel in Greendale comes alive tonight with the Judgement Yard’s Mad Sundays.
Popularly known as “Kumarasta”, Red Fox has over the years become the place of choice for reggae and dancehall fans in Harare.
With a line-up of some of the country’s top dancehall DJs and MCs, namely Etherton B, DJ Flevah, Asha B, DJ 2bad and sound founder Irandu, the night is billed to be supercharged.
Whether you prefer live shows, outdoor fun or you just want to hit the clubs, the options today are limitless.
