Government is committed to uplifting the welfare of workers as labour plays a crucial role in contributing towards the attainment of Vision 2030, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Dr Sekai Nzenza has said.

At her inaugural interface meeting with labor unions, Dr Nzenza vowed to pursue dialogue with stakeholders in order to strengthen the collective bargaining processes for the benefit of workers.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Labour Ministry said: “The Minister underscored the value that Government affords on the role of Trade Unions in the world of work, and the importance of dialogue among all parties, particularly with respect to addressing concerns of the most vulnerable groups of society and workers.

“She (Dr Nzenza) expressed Government’s commitment towards strengthening the collective bargaining processes for the benefit of workers, especially in the current macro-economic environment.”

The Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions (ZFTU) and the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) urged Government to finalize the Labour Amendment Bill as well as resuscitate the Tripartite Negotiating Forum in light of anticipated investment inflows.

“In their submissions, social partners agreed with the Minister to pursue social dialogue as the most viable way of addressing economic challenges and called for the urgent finalisation of the Tripartite Negotiating Forum legislation,” the statement highlighted.

The labour unions encouraged Government to bring labour to the fore in its policies and developmental programmes. They also implored Government to uphold worker’s rights.
