Youths have been urged to look out for political elements that are bent on destabilising Zimbabwe by capitalising on the economic challenges being faced by many people in the country.

Speaking at a belated 21st February Movement celebrations hosted by the Harare Youth Province at the Zanu-PF Headquarters yesterday, the party’s secretary for Youth League Cde Pupurai Togarepi said young people need to heed Government calls for peace and unity in order to take the country forward.

The 21st February Movement celebrations coincide with President Mugabe’s birthday. The President turned 91 in February this year and the major celebrations were held in Victoria Falls.

Cde Togarepi’s calls come as Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) councillors have been urging vendors to ignore Government directive to relocate to designated sites. “Let me take this opportunity to urge youths not be used by opposition parties who want to gain political mileage out the vending situation,” he said.

“The MDC-T has been telling people to ignore Government calls on relocation of vendors, but I want to tell them that we will not stand at akimbo while they try to destabilise the cities and the country at large, we will fight them.”

Cde Togarepi urged the youths to emulate President Robert Mugabe whom he described as a disciplined leader ready to defend his country at all times.

“We need to emulate the life of President Mugabe who dedicated his whole life to his country and to the people of Zimbabwe. He and other leaders faced a lot of challenges but he was ready to defend it at all times.”

Speaking at the same occasion, Minister of State for Harare Province Cde Mirriam Chikukwa said there was need for all stakeholders to unite and work towards a common goal.

“We all need a clean city at the end of the day, fighting will not help in any way. We need to put our political differences aside and work towards a common goal when it comes to the vending issue,” she said.

Cde Chikukwa also urged the youths to take advantage of resources being availed to them by the Government to empower themselves.

The celebrations were attended by scores of Zanu-PF members.
