Sport and Recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane has challenged the Warriors to “do everything it takes” to win when they face Swaziland in an Afcon 2017 qualifier at the National Sports Stadium in Harare tomorrow.
Zimbabwe salvaged a 1-all draw in the first leg in Mbabane on Good Friday and the minister, via a statement, has urged Kallisto Pasuwa’s men to go for maximum points tomorrow.
“The minister calls on the Warriors to do everything they can to defeat the Swazis on Monday so as to boost their chances of making it to Afcon finals in 2017,” read the statement.
“He is therefore calling on Zimbabwean sport fans to go to the National Sports Stadium in their multitudes on Monday to support the Warriors in this do-or-die encounter.”
The minister acknowledged the team’s efforts and those of the fans who travelled to Swaziland for the tie.
“He also extended his congratulations to the Warriors team for coming out with a point in the crucial first leg encounter between Zimbabwe and Swaziland.
“The minister would like to express deep and profound thanks to the legion of football fans who went to render their support to the Warriors team at Somhlolo Stadium in Swaziland (on Friday).
“He particularly takes note of the sacrifice by these fans, some of whom travelled for over a thousand kilometres by road, to register their support for the Warriors.”
