Pastor Tinashe Zinyemba The Christian Youth —
IT has been so hot over the past days; I hope you are taking precautions to guard against the heat. This reminds me of Genesis 8:22, which says: “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

A short while ago people were complaining about the cold weather and now it is the heat, soon we will have rain. What does this mean for you and me? That nothing in life will ever remain the way it is.

If you are down be encouraged because your day to soar will come soon. If you are up do not get complacent because the trials of life will find you one day so prepare.

Do not despair your turn to shine in the light will come, some people become so despondent. The fact that you failed your exams is not the end of the road, the fact that you are failing to get a job does not mean that it will always be that way.

Simply because no man is noticing you or you cannot seem to find a girl who also likes you does not mean that you are going to remain that way. Your day to laugh and be happy is soon to come because seasons change that is the way life is.

One of the challenges of being a young person is that you have so much energy yet unfortunately opportunities to gainfully deploy that energy productively seldom come easy. Many people end up getting involved in frivolous activities that lead to some times tragedy and in most cases a wastage of a life that had so much potential.

It is very unfortunate that opportunities for young people are so difficult to come by particularly during these harsh economic times. It is important to note that doors of opportunity come from God and He can avail them to you if you are willing.

Revelations 3:7 says, “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth.” We first need to acknowledge that all of the opportunities that you are looking for are found in God. Let us consider what the Bible says about creating opportunities.

God spoke clearly to Moses and said in Exodus 20:12: “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”

To extend your life in a place that God will give you (an opportunity to be in relationship, a job, school, business), you need to show honour. Honour is defined as to show respect towards or a tangible symbol signifying approval or distinction first to your biological parents, relatives and anyone who is an elder in your life.

Show honour to your pastors and individuals in authority for example the police, your teacher, principal, boss at work and if you are married your husband.

Honour does not mean that you do whatever you are told despite the negative consequences neither does it mean that you can be abused without question. Rather, it means that you humble yourself and know your place.

Elisha honoured Elijah and he served him to the best of his ability no matter how difficult the circumstances. This opened an opportunity for him to become one of Israel’s greatest prophets.

Ruth honoured Naomi, even though her husband had died she had no obligation to stay faithful to Naomi her mother in law yet she honoured her. This opened an opportunity for her to get married to the wealthiest man in town and to become a part of the direct lineage of Jesus Christ.

Honour is not only limited to your parents as indicated in Exodus 20:12, the apostle Paul says in Romans 12:1, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

He also says in 1 Corinthians 3:16, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” Respect your body, many people do not live healthy lifestyles. They eat a lot of junk food, sleep late, abuse drugs and related substances and worst of are sexually promiscuous. Honour your body. You can fail to maximise on life’s opportunities due to ill health or fail to complete your education.

You can die young, there are some careers that require a healthy person for example pilots, engineers, medical practitioners, drivers, cooks, messengers, the list is endless. Mary had an angelic encounter in Luke 1.

The criteria to becoming the mother of Jesus was not only that she must be a Jew who was God fearing but more so that she was a virgin. Imagine, if Mary was a promiscuous young lady even God in His great grace and mercy could not use her for that specific task and Mary would have disqualified herself from that great opportunity.

Show honour to your gift. Everyone is gifted no matter who you are. Your gift might not be as visible as others but you are gifted. We are all gifted with time, health, physical and spiritual gifts.

Matthew 25:15-29 has the parable of the talents, where a man who did not show honour to his talent not only lost it, but was punished severely for not respecting his gift.

To generate opportunities, start by sowing seeds of honour. Heaven responds to people who show honour. Look at your life, respect the field that you are in and where you are coming from.

Honour those around you and respect yourself and soon you will find golden opportunities coming your way.
That is all for now. Take care and God bless.
