DeMbare — This is your coach speaking Lloyd Mutasa

Lloyd Mutasa
IT has been a painful week for the Dynamos faithful after last weekend’s sad loss to Ngezi Platinum Stars.
It’s understandable given the magnitude of expectations at this institution.

But people being people will always have different perceptions.

If you look at how we started this journey, nobody tipped us to be in the position we are in today.

They said Dynamos will fight relegation but here we are, fighting for the league title.

That alone is an achievement.

However, this is relative and comes in different aspects, so it’s up to people to judge us and say what they feel.

From the onset, there were critics who said Dynamos were relegation material.

Now those same critics are criticising us saying we are not good enough to take the title.

Suddenly, that Dynamos that was labelled relegation candidates has suddenly become good enough to win the title?

This has been a gruelling journey and we are saying we are still in the process of achieving something good.

When we assembled this team, we discussed about our target with the boys and I declared that this group would achieve better than the Dynamos of 2016 which finished fifth and 17 points off the mark.

Look at the position we are in now, the number of points we have garnered and judge for yourself.

But being Dynamos, we are always after the title year in year out, regardless of the circumstances we have to operate in.

We are renowned fighters.

I remember when I was still a player we needed to beat Black Rhinos by two clear goals to clinch the title on the last day of the season.

Rhinos scored first through Ian Gorowa and it meant DeMbare now needed to score three.

We scored three and I was one of the scorers and we won the league title.

Under Kallisto Pasuwa if you remember, DeMbare mastered the art of winning it on the last day against all odds.

The spirit is there, faith and belief is always with us the DeMbare family.

And I am saying to our fans please give this group a chance to repeat what the other Dynamos teams of old used to do.

We have the pedigree.

We have done all we can to forget about the loss in Ngezi and as coaches we are happy with what we have seen during the week.

After losing three points in Ngezi, we are all out to get three points against Chapungu today.

We have been in this situation before, we have done this before and I am sure we will do it again against Chapungu.

Expect a lot of variations to the team because changes are bound to be there when the team is not performing according to expectations.

Denver Mukamba and Lincoln Zvasiya are not in my plans for this game for reasons most of you are aware of.

They absconded from training last week when we needed them most and their behaviour disrupted the rhythm ahead of the trip to Ngezi.

However, we put that aside at the beginning of the week and we planned for Chapungu without them in mind.

Theirs is a matter for another day and we will see how we work things out with these boys.

Right now the focus is on Chapungu and as Dynamos we can’t keep losing points because that is not good for the institution.

Fans are worried I know because they expect more from us.

They are somehow justified because they support Dynamos, the biggest team in the land. And we are saying please retain your belief in this group of boys.

Support us all the way, stop judging us now but let’s talk about it all after Round 34 with facts and the final result on the ground.

Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa spoke to The Sunday Mail Reporter Langton Nyakwenda in Harare on November 2, 2017.
