Winning is so cool, it opens up new doors.

A new one has been opened for Harare City’s ladies volleyball team and UZ Wolves men.

The students are going to the Africa Volleyball Club Championships, set for Egypt in March, to “learn”.

The two teams are set to make their maiden appearances at the competition, and will be joined by Support Unit who will be making a second appearance at the tournament. UZ were losing finalists to compatriots Support Unit in the Zone VI final in Bulawayo last month, but reaching the final booked them a place at the Africa Club Championships. “It’s our first time and we are going to learn,” said UZ coach Munya Mavima.

“The guys are quite excited ahead of this, they had a terrific season and it’s nice to reap the rewards of the good work.

“It’s nice for them to know they will be playing against some of the guys they see on TV,” he continued.

The UZ coach has hailed the fantastic team chemistry.

“We have good depth and what I love most is the team chemistry, everyone backs the next guy and that’s what you want in a team,” he said.

For the Harare City ladies who capped off a tremendous season by winning the Zone VI Championship in their first appearance, there is excitement in the camp.

They are hoping for an early departure to Egypt.

“The excitement is high, we will be playing in North Africa and we hope if all goes well we could go a week earlier to acclimatise,” said Harare City coach Leadme Daniel Muhlohla, adding: “We have played well and our mental strength is impressive.”

“I know we will be debutants and it will be tough but we will at least target the quarter-finals and anything above that will be a bonus,” said the coach who led the team to a clean sweep in the domestic season, winning the Harare Volleyball League Association and National League titles without tasting defeat.
