Croc eats man

crocodileA 34-year-old Kariba man was viciously attacked and devoured by a giant crocodile in a horrendous incident while he was fishing with a friend.
The police have since cautioned residents against fishing at Nyanyana Island. Mr Claudius Chimuchoka’s remains were later retrieved from the crocodile’s stomach after it was killed by Parks and Wildlife Management Authority of Zimbabwe officials.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident.
“Chimuchoka had gone for fishing at the island with his friend, George Mujurira, around lunch.

“The two men were in the water while fishing. The vicious creature attacked Chimuchoka from his waist.”
He said the crocodile feasted on Mr Chimuchoka while his helpless friend could only rush to seek assistance from fellow villagers. The villagers who rushed to the scene were shocked to see the crocodile disappear with his body.

A few days later, a villager spotted the crocodile feasting on what was suspected to be Mr Chimuchoka’s limb.
“The police then joined forces with Parks officials to search for the dangerous reptile. The Parks officials managed to trap the crocodile and kill it; they opened up the reptile to retrieve Chimuchoka’s body parts,” said Asst Insp Mabgweazara.

“Inside the crocodile’s stomach were two human limbs, kidneys, flesh and skin.” In a similar case, a Banket senior citizen was also attacked by a crocodile while fishing.

On April 26, Mrs Agness Chirapa (85) of Mvou Farm was attacked by a crocodile at the farm dam.
Fellow villagers were alerted by her screams and rushed to the scene.

The police who were informed of the incident rushed to the scene and fired gunshots, thereby scaring away the vicious reptile.

The old woman’s body was only found the following day.
However, it is not clear whether she drowned or was killed by the crocodile.

Asst Insp Mabgweazara said seven cases of crocodile attacks have been reported in the province since the beginning of the year.
