Corpus Christ High

AS I collected my Ordinary level results for the October–November 2015 Zimsec  O’Level  examinations which came out this week, I could not help but cry, cry out of joy for the service I got from my school Corpus Christ High School which mentored and made many students realize their academic dreams.

W

hen I joined Corpus Christ High in 2012, after grade 7, I did not consider myself a good student academically.

I had come out with 11 units and that saw me failing to secure places at local government high schools in Kuwadzana which were my preferred choice. Today I am so happy for that as it has turned to be a blessing in disguise.

Many people thought  I had made a mistake given the bad publicity private schools get. Little did they know that Corpus Christ High School, a private high school in Kuwadzana, is a school with a difference. A school that emphasizes maximum discipline and hard work both for the teachers and students hence the best and greatest pass rates in the district.

Four years down the line, I am now a proud Corpus Christ High student who has done his parents and school proud. Of the eleven subjects I did at O’level, I came out with 10As and 1 B. Of those eleven subjects four are science subjects namely Biology A, Physical Science A, and another A in mathematics.

At Corpus Christ High, students are given combinations named by the school pathways, these are Arts, Sciences and Commercials. Students are graded into these pathways according to their abilities and they are then given specialized attention in their chosen pathways.

For me I was to follow the Sciences pathway but I opted to take two pathways namely commercials and sciences. I did this because of my adventurous character.

In the commercials pathway I took Geography A, economics A, Principles of Accounts A and other auxiliary subjects which I also got As. When I collected my results I was made to understand that almost three quarters of the Corpus Christ High got 5 O’Levels and above with most of the students getting As in Mathematics and other challenging subjects.

In our sciences class, most students got at least 6As and above, followed by the commercials pathway class  which had good passes. Most of the students got 5As and above  with their highest achiever getting 8As and a B.

This year we outperformed the arts class whose highest performer had 7As and 2Bs whilst the lowest had 2As.

When I compared my results against those that had done better than me at Primary Level, those who got four to eight units,  and got places at local high schools that I failed to get a place at, I discovered I had done better than all of them.

I cannot help but thank God, my teachers, my principal Mr Mukanhairi, the governing body with Mr Marowa and Mr Ruzvidzo for helping in bringing out the genius in me and other students that had been rejected by traditional schools because of our low passes.

Interestingly my friends in those local schools failed to beat us.

To Corpus Christ High, I would like to thank the administration for the conducive learning environment they have set. We start school at 7am and end at 4pm thereby forcing students to study.

When such conditions were introduced, we used to refer to it as an Academic Prison but now we are enjoying the benefits.
