Broken women from the coloured community of Arcadia are being restored through a programme which was launched six years ago to assist them to deal with various cases of abuse.

Complete Woman Ministry was started by Impact Christian Centre with the aim of assisting women to find their true identity and purpose in an environment riddled with alcohol abuse, dagga smoking and marital violence.

Pastor Glenda Lurrie, the head of the ministry, said it was a challenge for women to survive in such environments and discover what God had in store for them.

“We realised women especially from the coloured community face challenges that are unique to this community where men have no jobs, they are drinking, smoking dagga and there is a lot of abuse taking place.

“Complete Woman Ministry provides counselling, prayer and Bible studies to build up women.

“Women bring life, nurture children, take care of the family, they play a very important role in society.

“Yet they suffer the most because the devil robs them of their identity and their self-esteem.

“Some women have the misconception that you can only be complete when you are with a man.

“Well for some women marriage isn’t coming their way.

“When God decided to create he didn’t create an inadequate woman – that is why she is a helper,” Pastor Lurrie said.

Pastor Lurrie highlighted that the ministry is meant to recondition women, some of whom have or are raising families alone.

“The women are beginning to appreciate their completeness.

“By knowing God they have become bold, confident and have a positive perception of themselves.

“Some have been labelled prostitutes for the better part of their lives and gone through so much. But God is a restorer of dignity.

“We have taught women never to feel sorry for themselves because the moment they do that the devil will take them on a decline,” added Pastor Lurrie.

The church aims to equip women with various skills that include making detergents, among other projects.
