Chicken Inn… (0) 2

LOG leaders Chicken Inn came back from a goal down to record a late win over a 10-man How Mine at Luveve Stadium yesterday to preserve their four point lead on top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Two late goals from Edmore Chirambadare in the 87th minute and substitute Toto Banda two minutes into the referees’ optional time, ensured that the Gamecocks remained on pole position four points clear of second placed FC Platinum.

Chicken Inn moved to 52 points while FC Platinum with a 3-0 victory over Whawha, are now on 48. How Mine had led for 86 minutes of the match through a first half goal scored by Thembani Masuku.Chikurupati ended the match with 10 men when defender Morris Kadzola was shown red by referee Nduna Nkosana for a second bookable offence with five minutes to go. That was to prove costly as Chicken Inn made their numerical advantage count with a late blitz to walk away with the precious three points.

How Mine were far much the better side in the first half and took the lead eight minutes into the match with a well taken free kick by Masuku from outside the Chicken Inn box. Masuku struck the ball with the left foot, which eluded everyone including Elvis Chipezeze in goals for the Gamecocks.

Three minutes later, Chirambadare chose to be selfish when he had done well to beat his marker on the left and instead of crossing the ball into the box, he sent his effort over the bar.

How Mine goalkeeper Bernard Donovan did well to save a free kick taken by Chicken Inn skipper Danny Phiri in the 20th minute which he pushed out for a corner.

With 10 minutes to go before the break, Benjamin Marere forced out a fine save off Chipezeze from close range after a good run by Heritein Masuku who crossed into the box.

As action quickly moved to the other end, Chirambadare again shot over after being nicely put through by his partner upfront, Michelle Katsvairo.George Majika wasted a chance to level matters for Chicken Inn eight minutes prior to the end of the first half.

Kadzola received his marching orders from Nkosana five minutes before the end of the match for a second punishable offence, this time around for pulling down Banda on the edge of the box as the substitute went for goal.As Kadzola took the long walk to the changing room, Chirambadare slammed a superb goal from the resultant free kick, beating a diving Donovan at the near post.

Chicken Inn kept fighting and soon had the winning goal. Chirambadare lobbied the ball for overlapping defender Moses Jackson who did well to deliver a cross into box which found an unmarked Banda who had the easiest of tasks to head the ball into the nets.

How Mine caretaker coach Jeremiah Makota, almost in tears for giving it all away right at the end blamed the defeat on loss of concentration by his team. Despite the team not being able to record a win since Makota replaced Luke Masomere last month, the interim coach believes there has been a massive improvement.Joey Antipas, the Chicken Inn coach, was delighted with the win and attributed it to the resilience of his side.
