The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will hold its inaugural Mashonaland Central Career Guidance and Exhibition Fair at Mazowe Boys’ High School on May 24.

Ms Florence Mungure, who is co-ordinating the fair, pointed out that career guidance was a requirement of the new curriculum.

“We want to expose learners to the vast career opportunities that are available locally and to align them to global demands. This will help learners to make informed decisions on career options,” she said.

Organisers said the fair would help clear misconceptions about gender and career paths, as well as promote opportunities offered by sport.

Ms Mungure, who is head of the Guidance and Counselling Department at Mazowe Boys High, said several exhibitors had been invited to cater for sciences, commerce and the arts.

Among those whose participation has been confirmed are Chinhoyi University of Technology, the Institute of Chartered Accountant, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, British Council, Education USA, Education Matters, Snowhite, Adventure Land, Willdale and CPS Publishers, among others.

Mr Stanslous Muguto, one of the organisers, said: “We intend to make it an annual event as Guidance and Counselling is a compulsory and important component of the new curriculum. It surely makes a difference and contributes in a positive way to learners.”

All schools in Mashonaland Central and from other provinces are invited to attend. The invitation is also open to anyone wishing to exhibit. Contact: +263712558077, +263773208776 or +263712524914
